Leo Burnett London and McDonald’s Go for a Ride in the ‘Journey to Christmas’

McDonald’s UK and Leo Burnett London are encouraging people to embrace the festive spirit by singing along to a Christmas classic.

Their new campaign, the latest iteration of the brand platform “Good Times,” is built around a new ad that explores a classic festive tradition — the Christmas road trip, whether it’s to see family or friends.

The campaign features on a heartwarming spot, “The Journey to Christmas,” of a family making its road trip just before Christmas day. The ad mirrors many people’s experiences of being woken up at dawn, packing into a car full of presents and heading out to a relative’s house. The mom turns on the radio and the family joyfully sings along to the British Christmas classic “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” by Wizzard. In a classic dad move, the father turns off the radio but the children’s grumbles turn to cheers when they see they are making a pit stop at McDonald’s.

The ad features a call to action for people to film themselves singing the same song on their own Christmas journey and upload it to Each video entry will have a chance of starring in a special 90-second Christmas day ad that will be played during “Coronation Street,” one of the U.K.’s most watched shows.

The campaign will also feature a partnership with Heart FM, a fun “cab-i-oke” experience touring in different cities across the U.K., and a McDonald’s in Southampton being transformed into a Winter Wonderland.
