Father Christmas and his reindeer fuel up with McDonald’s this holiday season
Our UK office creates a beloved Christmas tradition with its second annual #ReindeerReady campaign for McDonald’s.
Through the creation of a short film, Leo Burnett and McDonald’s share the experience of Father Christmas and his reindeer as they journey around the UK on Christmas Eve. House after house, Father Christmas fills up on mince pies, while people seem to have forgotten about the hard-working reindeer. When several tired looks from the reindeer turn into a bumpy landing, Father Christmas heads to McDonald’s for help, to stock up on carrots for his travel companions. Their satisfaction may very well save Christmas.
The campaign features TV, cinema, VOD and social content, including a digital experience on Snapchat with a lens-based game that transforms the player’s face into a reindeer to catch as many falling carrots as they can—determining how fast they fly through the sky. The Snapchat filters are available for customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants.
Hoping to deliver a little magic for everyone this holiday season, the brand also created a Christmas jumper giveaway competition, animated ebook for families to read together leading up to Christmas, and Ready Reindeer Live, an AR experience for Christmas Day that allows parents and kids to see the magical moment when the reindeer arrived at their home.
This year’s campaign is sure to warm hearts and capture the spirit of Christmas.
